Churches and cathedrals hold most of the best stained glass in Britain, and most of it is easiest to understand one building at a time. This section is organised by building. Choose a church below to see its windows, a short history of the building and a note on the glass.
How this section is arranged
Each building has its own page with a description, a few key facts (town, county, listing, period of the glass) and photographs of the windows. Every photograph is also catalogued in the glass photograph archive by town, period, motif and glass type, so you can look across buildings as well as within one.
