Abstract

Not every piece of decorative glass shows a recognisable subject. Abstract designs rely on colour, line and texture alone, from swirling curves and bold blocks of colour to wave and ripple patterns. They became especially popular in the twentieth century, when modern architecture and interior design made room for glass without a story to tell. The photographs below show abstract work in leaded lights, sandblasted glass and other forms.
