House numbers, names, and the lettering of shops, pubs and public buildings have been set in glass for as long as buildings have had fanlights and windows. Letters can be painted, leaded, acid etched or sandblasted, and a number above a door is often the first piece of decorative glass a visitor sees. The photographs below show numerals and lettering in glass.
