Laminated glass

Laminated glass is made from two or more sheets of glass bonded with a tough plastic interlayer. If the glass breaks, the pieces stay stuck to the interlayer and the pane remains in place. This gives protection against injury and, in some constructions, against forced entry.

It is also more effective at reducing noise than a single sheet, and it blocks most ultraviolet light, which helps protect fabrics and furnishings from fading. Laminated panes can be used alone or as one leaf of a double glazed unit.

Decorative effects can be set between the leaves of laminated glass, such as coloured films or fabrics.
