Invite StainedGlass.co.uk to Cover Your Cathedral or Glass Technique

StainedGlass.co.uk is planning a series of visit articles: a day spent at a cathedral, a church or a working studio, written up afterwards with photographs. Where possible the technique is tried first hand, so that the article can describe it from experience and not only from reading. Invitations are welcome from anyone who looks after notable glass or practises a glass technique.

What a visit article covers

The article is about the glass, not about promoting a business. It describes the building or the technique, how the glass is created, restored or installed, the materials involved and what the day showed, with photographs taken during the visit. The place or studio that hosted the visit is named in the article and credited for its help.

Who can invite

  • Cathedrals, churches and other buildings with stained glass or decorative glass of interest. Buildings can also approve photography on the page Claim This Location.
  • Studios and workshops that practise a technique, for example brilliant cutting, copper foil, leaded lights, etching, sandblasting, fusing or kiln forming.
  • Conservators and restorers who work on historic windows and panels.
  • Museums and collections with glass that can be photographed and studied.

How an invitation works

  1. Send an invitation through the contact page, giving the place or the technique, where it is, and what could be photographed or tried. Please say in the message that it is an invitation.
  2. If a visit is possible, a day is agreed with the host.
  3. The article is written after the visit and published on the site, with photographs from the day.

Not every invitation will lead to a visit

Visits are limited. The site cannot visit dozens of studios, so only a small number of invitations will lead to a visit, and an invitation does not guarantee an article. Each one is considered on its own merits, and a visit may be arranged for a later date.

A visit article is not advertising

Visit articles are written about glass types, techniques and buildings, and they are not listings or paid promotion. Studios that want to advertise, or to be included in the planned directories, can register their interest.

Visits so far

No visits have been published yet. Articles will be listed here as they are written, and they will also appear in the Learn section and in the pages on glass types that they relate to.

Send an invitation

Cathedrals, churches, studios, conservators and museums are all welcome to write.
